Vedanta Mahima (Skanda Purana Excerpts)

One can realize Ishwara, Atman, Brahman only by Brahma Vidya.

This Brahma Vidya is Vedanta - the essence of Vedas.

This importance of Vedanta is underscored in many utterances in Skanda Purana. Some selection of those utterances are listed below, mainly for inspiration

120. O Sabdabrahman, obeisance to you. Obeisance to you, O supreme Brahman. Obeisance to one comprehensible only through the Vedanta. Obeisance to the controller of the Vedas..

117-118. It is easily obtained in KasI whatever one gets by means of great strain in practising severe
austerities, by means of great Danas (gifts), great Vratas, observances and restraints, great sacrifices,
Yogic practices, repeated studies of the Vedanta Sastras and resorting to all the Upanisad

Lomasa Uvaca: -
2-4. Lord Sambhu wandered about in the forest Darukavana for the sake of begging alms. The sole lord of the worlds with quarters for his garments, having the cluster of his matted hair loosened, that lord who can be understood only through Vedanta (i.e. Upanisads), the great lord, the greatest among leading Yogins, the sole supporter of the group of worlds is greater than the greatest. He is the great lord of the worlds with exalted dignity. That noble-souled Isvara assumed the form of a mendicant; begged For alms in the Darukavana forest

Brahma said:
2. You who have assumed the Linga form, are of great miraculous power. You who are of the form of the Supreme Soul, are knowable (only) through Vedanta (Upanisads). It is by you who is ever engrossed in Bliss that the universe which is rooted in you, has been created.You are the witness unto all worlds....

39. Siva is the Paramatma (Supreme Soul) by whom everything is created and sustained. He pervades everything and evolves everything. The entire universe is a part of this Lord. He is comprehended through the Vedanta.

166. Since the lord was in the guise of Vatu (Sri Vamana), he sang the Sama hymns loudly. It was the 
lord himself, lord Hari who can be realized only through the Vedantas, who was being sung about in
those Saman hymns.

Kala Uvaca : -
66. You are everything, O sole kinsman of the universe. You can be comprehended only through the 
Vedanta; you are of exalted magnanimity; you are worthy of being glorified by all magnanimous persons. You alone are honoured by the whole universe, O lord of the universe,

Mahadeva, the moon-crested lord, shone during the meditation. The noble-souled Sesa was his Yogapatta (upper cloth). Vasuki, the great king of serpents, was tied round the waist. Lord was immersed in his Self - the Atman is immanent in everything. He who was to be known through Vedanta ... He is single and infinite without any limit or boundary. He cannot be guessed or known by Logic. He is of the form of Self-enlightenment. The sole lord of the worlds remained thus as Brahman (Atman - Infinite Self - Satyan, Jnanam, Anantam)

Dhruva Stuti: -
Obeisance to the Lord who can be comprehended only through the Vedanta; obeisance to the Lord having Srivatsa; obeisance to the Lord in the form of the Gunas; to one who is with and without attributes.

Isvara Uvaca: -
20. He who does not leave off the banks of Ganga till his body falls (i.e., death), is always on a par with one conversant with Vedanta, a Yogin and one regularly observing the vow of celibacy.

11: One who dies in Kasi becomes immortal without Nididhyasana in/of, Brahman known only from the Vedantas...

27b-29. Salvation is certain through the knowledge of Brahman acquired by means of single-minded devotion and listening to the Vedanta in regard to ascetics who have sublimated their sexual urge.

O Brahmanas, that very salvation can be acquired solely through visiting Lord Venkateswara by the
people of all castes and stages in life without the knowledge arising through listening to the Upanisads, without being in the stage

Narada himself, who is a storehouse of the knowledge of Brahman, has told you that the knowledge of this (Lord) cannot be had from anything other than the words of Vedanta.

Obeisance to the Lord of Rama, who can be comprehended through the Vedanta, whose abode is in Vaikuntha, and who is the father of Creator Brahma

Sri Rama Uvaca : -
6-7. Bow to the overlord of Devas, to the Lord Ramanatha, the witness. Obeisance to the lord comprehensible only through the Vedanta; to the giver of truth to the Yogins. Bow to Lord Sambhu, to the lord of the universe, eternally filled with bliss. Obeisance to the lord, the dust particles of whose lotus-like feet cause destruction of the fear of devotees.

18. This six-syllabled Mantra (om namahsivaya) is the supreme king of the kings of all the Mantras, the crest-jewel of all the Vedanta, the storehouse of all spiritual knowledge.

22. Let the sole Lord of the universe protect me as I stand. Let the Lord of Pramathas (attendants) protect me as I am walking along; let the Lord who can be known (only) through the Vedanta protect me as I am seated; and let Siva protect me when I lie down.

Raja Bhadrayu :-
57. Hail to the lord to be known (only) through the Vedanta, to one abiding at root (source) of the Vedas; obeisance to one whose activities are incomprehensible; obeisance to the lord from whom the Gunas recede...
